Danny Woodburn has been cast as Splinter in Platinum Dunes' Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, Deadline has learned. Now, of all the major characters, only Shredder's role remains unfilled. Or is it?
As mentioned above, Woodburn will play the Turtles' sensei Splinter, who in the original comics is a pet rat kept by a martial arts expert named Hamato Yoshi. When his master was murdered by his brother, Splinter fled to the New York sewers where he eventually came in contact with a radioactive ooze that mutated him and the four turtles into what they are now.
In another origin story, Splinter is actually Hamato Yoshi himself. He went to live in the New York sewers when his rival framed him for the murder of their mutual sensei. As with the first origin story, he and the turtles mutated when they came in contact with the radioactive ooze.
We're not sure which one they're going with for the movie. It could be neither since Michael Bay said previously that the Turtles are of alien origin. Of course, the movie was delayed for a couple of months so that may no longer be true.
As for Shredder, the villain of the movie, there was that mystery Will Arnett casting two weeks back...
Ninja Turtles is currently shooting with Jonathan Liebesman at the helm. Megan Fox is playing April O'Neil, and Noel Fisher, Pete Ploszek, Alan Ritchson, and Jeremy Howard are playing the Turtles.
The movie has been set for release on June 6, 2014.
