Our Columnists' Lingerie Picks of the Month: October

Kristina: Lucky me! I am officially the proud owner of this beautiful Chantelle bra set from their Paris Paris collection. This exquisite group features an intricate jacquard pattern which creates a convincing tromp l?oeil effect of delicate leavers lace. The effect is so remarkable that you can?t help but to touch and examine it in person just to believe your eyes. And since it is as comfortable as it is stylish, I predict this set will soon become a trusty staple in my lingerie wardrobe.

Karolina: Sockbox?s website sends me into a frenzy of lingerie lust that the world has never seen before.? There?s literally too many gorgeous garments there to behold ? and I seriously struggled to pick out this bodysuit from the rest of their offerings (just look at some of those robes ? utterly stunning, and perfect for swishing around the house? Or maybe even somewhere a little more glamorous!).? The Gentle Orchid Bodysuit stood out to me in particular as it?s so fantastically luxurious and versatile.? The details are just perfect: the flowing lace, oversized chiffon bows and those adorable suspender clips.? Irresistible!

Laura: Another vote for Chantelle?s Paris-Paris collection! This looks like a lace overlay, but it?s actually a lace pattern stitched onto the bra cup. ?Not only is this cool and beautiful illusion, but it also makes for a smoother fit under clingy tops.

Marianne: With Halloween (my favorite holiday) here, it?s no wonder I?m feeling a little? vampy. ?Hopeless Lingerie?s ?Ellen? Elastic Body Harness?suits that mood eerily well. ?Despite its bold look, I can?see lots of?styling possibilites, as it could be worn not just?with any bra or bodysuit, but even over,?say, a fitted turtleneck dress to add a little?spice to your fall look. ?Hopeless Lingerie is handmade to order,?so the only downside is you can?t incorporate it into your?spooky costume, but its arrival would?surely give you?something to be thankful for in November. ?The harness is available in 6?sizes, with adjustable?straps all around for a perfected fit, and retails for $60.

Holly: The Lola Luxe Basque has been a hit for Bravissimo in several different colorways, and was recently released in this luscious blackberry version. While this basque is pretty, it?s also one of the most unique pieces on the market. The cups are designed to be truly supportive, and sizing goes up to a K cup in 30 through 38 bands. This is a basque that is ready for the bedroom or a long day at work. Previous versions of this have sold out rapidly, so make sure to grab your size as soon as you can! I?m not sure lots of size choice will be around for the holidays. Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...

Teacher's aide fired after involvement in 1965 murder revealed

An Iowa teacher's aide has been fired from her job following the revelation that she was a member of an Indiana family notorious for torturing and killing a girl in their basement in 1965.

"A week ago today we got an anonymous report that the now Paula Pace was the previous Paula Baniszewski involved in this 1965 murder case in Indiana and it was a real attention-seeker out there, a heinous crime," Grundy County Sheriff Rick Penning told ABCNews.com today.

Paula Baniszewski was 17 years old in the summer of 1965 when a 16-year-old girl names Sylvia Likens and her sister came to stay with Baniszewski's family. In the months that followed, Likens was beaten, burned, malnourished and branded with a hot needle. Her body was found in the basement of the home in October of that year.

The case became one of the most infamous crimes in Indiana and has been the subject of several books and movies.

Baniszewski's mother Gertrude Baniszewski was convicted of first degree murder and Paula Baniszewski was found guilty of second degree murder for her participation in the torture. Several other family members were also convicted.

Paula Baniszewski appealed her conviction and ultimately pleaded guilty to manslaughter. She served time and was released from prison in 1972. She completed her parole and moved to Iowa.

Baniszewski, now 64, has been going by the name Paula Pace and has worked for the BCLUW school district in Conrad, Iowa, since 1998. She had done some custodial work and was most recently working as a teacher's aide for special needs students.

Recently, information about Pace's true identity began circulating around Facebook and an anonymous tipster called police to tell them they should look into her background. Police immediately notified the school and both began doing background checks.

Pace's birth date matched Baniszewski's and a current photo of her beared a striking resemblance to the 1965 mugshot.

"The superintendent had called her in and she admitted to it, so she was suspended," Penning said.

The school called a special meeting of the school board on Tuesday and the seven-member board unanimously voted to fire Baniszewski.

"Paula Pace's employment was terminated at a board meeting yesterday," superintendent Ben Petty told ABCNews.com. "Her employment was terminated for providing false information on her application."

Petty would not comment further on how she was able to lie on her application.

Penning said that Baniszewski is not facing any criminal charges and the matter is between her and the school.

Baniszewski could not be reached for comment. An Iowa phone number listed for Pace had been disconnected.

20 Percent Of Consumers View Online Streaming As ... - internet TV

The plot continues to thicken for analysts who are beginning to argue if online television is really going to replace traditional cable and satellite television providers in the United States. According to a new study from ABI research nearly 20 percent of online consumers now consider online video as a quick and easy replacement for pay TV.

Streaming TV luring Pay TV customers

That figure amounts to nearly $16.8 billion at risk for satellite and cable providers if more subscribers turn into cord cutters. ABI Research claims that traditional pay TV in the household will decline about half a percent every year through 2017 as online video and affordable (yet premium) subscription based online video streaming services improve and get more advanced.

?While many OTT services focus on movies, the goal of lightweight pay-TV packages should be to introduce customers to the brand and tease customers with premium content offerings,? says Sam Rosen, Director of TV and Video at ABI Research.

ABI argues that traditional pay TV operators, from cable to satellite need to build their businesses utilizing online video and what he calls over-the-top video experiences to draw consumers back into the fold. This could mean providing a mobile or tablet app free of charge for current subscribers?similar to watch HBO is doing with their HBO Go app.

For those who are still clinging to their traditional cable or satellite TV, the companies have a built-in marketing advantage. But for those consumers who have simply moved on from Pay TV and would rather get their television for free via website streams or through drastically more affordable online streaming subscriptions, the traditional Pay TV companies are going to have an uphill battle.

Biogen third-quarter profit rises, as does 2012 forecast

(Reuters) - Biogen Idec Inc reported much higher-than-expected third-quarter profit on Thursday on increased sales of its drugs for multiple sclerosis and cancer, and the U.S. biotechnology company raised its full-year earnings forecast.

The results were also helped by lower-than-expected costs, analysts said.

"They put up a nice solid quarter," said RBC Capital Markets analyst Michael Yee. "What's being appreciated in biotech is the consistent beat and raise by all four of the large cap biotechs this week and that's got the sector on the move."

In addition to Biogen, Amgen Inc, Gilead Sciences Inc, and Celgene Corp all reported higher-than-expected third quarter profits and raised their full-year earnings forecasts.

Excluding one-time items, Biogen earned $1.91 per share, topping analysts' average expectations by 31 cents, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S. Biogen shares rose 2.6 percent.

Biogen now expects 2012 earnings of $6.40 per share to $6.50 per share, excluding items, up from its prior view above $6.20.

The company also now expects 2012 revenue growth to be in the mid-to-high single digits in percentage terms, compared with 2011. It had forecast growth in the mid-single digits.

Wells Fargo analyst Brian Abrahams said in a research note the new forecast was in a range that he and Wall Street had expected, adding "and with this quarter's performance seems easily achievable or beatable".

However, most investors are focused on Biogen's experimental oral MS drug BG-12, which is expecting a U.S. approval decision around March, after the Food and Drug Administration earlier this month extended its review of the medicine by three months.

The company told analysts the agency had some questions for which Biogen submitted written responses, but that they did not involve any additional safety analysis. It said the FDA simply needed more time to review the BG-12 data and characterized the delay as the normal course of business. It had previously said the FDA was not seeking any additional data.

Biogen shares have nearly doubled during the last 18 months, driven primarily by enthusiasm over the impressive data for BG-12, also known as dimethyl fumarate. Once approved, BG-12 would be the third oral treatment for the debilitating disease, but based on its safety and efficacy data it is expected to become the industry leader with annual sales in excess of $1 billion, according to analysts. MS affects more than 400,000 people in the U.S., and 2.1 million worldwide, according to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The company told analysts on a conference call it was "well prepared for upcoming product launches" and said costs would likely rise in the fourth quarter as it gets ready to start selling what is seen as by far its most important future growth driver, BG-12.

Biogen also expects to submit an application in the first quarter of 2013 seeking U.S. approval of its promising long-acting treatment for hemophilia B - the less common form of the disorder in which patients lack certain proteins necessary for blood clotting. Hemophilia will be a new market for the company.

Key data on an experimental drug for ALS, also known as Lou Gherig's disease, is expected late this year or early next year, Biogen said.

Biogen's net profit in the third quarter rose to $398 million, or $1.67 per share, from $354 million, or $1.43 per share, a year ago.

Revenue rose 6 percent to $1.39 billion, a tad above Wall Street estimates of $1.38 billion.

Sales of the MS drug Avonex rose 8 percent to $736 million. Biogen reported that its revenue from its other multiple sclerosis treatment Tysabri dipped 1 percent to $275 million.

Irish drugmaker Elan Corp, Biogen's Tysabri marketing partner, previously reported worldwide sales of $404 million for the quarter, with U.S. sales of the infused drug higher than expected, while sales outside the United States fell short of analysts' estimates.

The company said 2,100 new Tysabri patients were added in the third quarter. The medicine is approved for patients who have had an inadequate response to or are intolerant of other MS treatments.

Avonex demand was being driven by the recently available, more convenient pen-like injector for the drug. Biogen said it was seeing significant conversion from the older needle delivery system, and that more than two-thirds of new Avonex patients were using the once-weekly pen injector.

International Avonex sales were $274 million. While the result was strong, it was hurt somewhat by unfavorable foreign exchange rates and price decreases in some markets like Spain and France.

Company revenue for Rituxan, the non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and rheumatoid arthritis drug Biogen co-markets with Roche, rose 8 percent to $288 million.

Biogen Idec shares rose $3.81, or 2.6 percent, to $145.87 in late morning trade on the Nasdaq.

Colonoscopy Screening May Have Cut Colon Cancer Rates - Drugs ...

TUESDAY Oct. 23, 2012 -- The increased use of colonoscopy screening appears to be the reason for the significant decrease in colorectal cancer rates in the United States over the past decade, a new study indicates.

Stanford University School of Medicine researchers analyzed data collected from more than 2 million patients over the past 20 years. They found that a drop in colorectal cancer incidence correlated with Medicare's extension of colonoscopy coverage in 2001.

The overall rate for surgery to remove colorectal cancer dropped from 71 to 47 procedures per 100,000 people between 1993 and 2009.

"Widespread colonoscopy screening may actually be having an impact on the risk of colon cancer screening at the level of the general population," senior investigator Dr. Uri Ladabaum, an associate professor of gastroenterology and hepatology, said in a university news release.

The researchers also looked at differences in rates of cancer in the lower and upper colon to assess the benefit that colonoscopy screening is expected to have in preventing cancers in both locations.

The surgery rate for lower colorectal cancer decreased about by 1.2 percent per year between 1993 and 1999, and then dropped by 3.8 percent a year from 1999 to 2009. The surgery rate for upper colon cancer remained steady until 2002 and then began to drop at a rate of 3.1 percent per year until 2009.

These findings suggest that the decrease in lower colorectal cancer might be associated with general screening increases, since some patients were undergoing stool tests and sigmoidoscopy in the early 1990s, the researchers wrote. Sigmoidoscopy examines only a portion of the colon.

On the other hand, the drop in upper colorectal cancer rates might be specifically linked with increased colonoscopy screening, Ladabaum said.

The study, which found an association but not proof that increased screening led to lower cancer rates, was published online Oct. 23 in the journal Gastroenterology.

Danville duo in top 15 at PIAA golf tournament

By The Daily Item

YORK -- The nerves might have got the best of Danville golfers Robbie Seebold and Austin Renz early in Monday's opening round of the PIAA Golf Championships, but the Danville duo played themselves back into contention on the back nine.

Seebold fired a 78 and Renz was one shot back at 79 after the first round of the Class AA state meet at Heritage Hills Country Club in York. Seebold, a senior, is tied for ninth entering today's final round, while Renz is tied for 15th. Yough senior Alex Patricio and Northwestern Lehigh junior Cole Miller are tied for first after shooting opening-round 72s.

Both Seebold, the 15th place finisher at the East Regional last week, and Renz, the District 4 champion who was third at Regionals, are making their first appearance at states and they each got out of the gates slowly.

Seebold sandwiched a birdie around double-bogies on his first three holes and went out in 40. He came back strong, finishing in 38 thanks to a birdie on the 16th hole. He is tied with five other players at 78, just six shots off the lead.

Renz also had a rough start, shooting 43 on the front nine, but he kept his round together as well. The junior did not have a birdie on the front nine, then birdied No. 10 to start the back nine in style. He also birdied No. 16 and came back in 36, just one over par on the back nine.

Only Patricio, who shot 34 on the back nine, had a better final nine holes than Renz. Renz is tied with three other players, including Central Columbia's C.J. Hollister for 15th.

The individual championships will be decided today with a second round. The lowest score over the two rounds wins the title.

Seebold will tee off at 9:40 this morning while Renz starts 10 minutes later on the back nine.

Obama, Romney pumped for dash to the finish

BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) ? Their debates now history, President Barack Obama and Republican Mitt Romney on Tuesday open a two-week sprint to Election Day powered by adrenaline, a boatload of campaign cash and a determination to reach Nov. 6 with no would-have, should-have regrets in their neck-and-neck fight to the finish.

From here, the candidates will vastly accelerate their travel, ad spending and grass-roots mobilizing in a race that's likely to cost upward of $2 billion by the time it all ends.

All the focus now is on locking down support in the nine states whose electoral votes are still considered up for grabs: Colorado, Iowa, Florida, New Hampshire, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Wisconsin and Virginia. No surprise then, that Obama campaigns Tuesday in Florida and Ohio while Romney heads West to Nevada and Colorado.

Asked Tuesday whether the race comes down to Ohio, Virginia and Florida as some observers have suggested, Vice President Joe Biden described the three as "critically important." He predicted victory in Ohio and Florida ? without mentioning Virginia.

"Look, this is going to be close," Biden said in an appearance on NBC's "Today" show. "We always knew at the end of the day this was going to be a close race, no matter who the Republicans nominated."

Neither candidate scored a knockout punch in their third and last debate Monday, as both men reined in the confrontational sniping that had marked their last testy encounter. And though the stated topic this time was foreign policy, both kept circling back to their plans for strengthening the fragile U.S. economy ? Job 1 to American voters.

Closing out their trio of debates, Obama concisely summed up this pivot point in Campaign 2012: "You've now heard three debates, months of campaigning and way too many TV commercials. And now you've got a choice."

The president framed it as a choice between his own record of "real progress" and the "wrong and reckless" ideas of Romney.

Romney countered by sketching "two different paths" offered by the candidates, one of decline under Obama and one of brighter promise from himself.

"I know what it takes to get this country back," he pledged.

With polls showing the race remains incredibly tight, first lady Michelle Obama made a prediction before the candidates left Florida that neither side would dispute: "This election will be closer than the last one ? that's the only guarantee."

Obama made it look easy in 2008. He won 365 electoral votes to 173 for Republican John McCain. And he got 53 percent of the popular vote, to 46 percent for McCain.

With 270 electoral votes needed for victory, Obama at this point appears on track to win 237 while Romney appears to have 191. The other 110 are in the hotly contested battleground states.

The candidates' strategies for getting to 270 are implicit in their itineraries for the next two weeks and in their spending on campaign ads.

Obama and his Democratic allies already have placed $47 million in ad spending across battlegrounds in the campaign's final weeks, while Romney and the independent groups supporting his candidacy have purchased $53 million, significantly upping their buys in Florida, Ohio and Virginia. And both sides are expected to pad their totals.

After Obama and Biden campaign together in Ohio on Tuesday, the president splits off on what his campaign is describing as a two-day "around-the-clock" blitz to six more battleground states. He'll be in constant motion ? making voter calls and sleeping aboard Air Force One as he flies overnight Wednesday from Nevada to Tampa, Fla.

The vice president is midway through a three-day tour of uber-battleground Ohio, and Obama's team contends its best way of ensuring victory is a win there. The campaign says internal polling gives Obama a lead in the Midwestern battleground state, in large part because of the popularity of the president's bailout of the auto industry.

But even if Obama loses Ohio, his campaign sees another pathway to the presidency by nailing New Hampshire, Iowa, Wisconsin, Nevada and Colorado.

Romney and running mate Paul Ryan are picking up the pace of their campaigning as well, and their schedule reflects an overarching strategy to drive up GOP vote totals in areas already friendly to the Republican nominee.

The Denver suburbs. Cincinnati. Reno, Nev. They're places that typically vote Republican, but where McCain fell short of the margins he needed to defeat Obama. To win in all-important Ohio, the GOP nominee must outperform McCain in typically Republican areas.

Romney and Ryan start their two-week dash in Henderson, Nev., then hopscotch to the Denver area for a rally with rocker-rapper Kid Rock and country music's Rodney Atkins at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Then Romney heads back to Nevada, on to Iowa and then east to Ohio for three overnights in a row. By week's end, he's likely to be back in Florida.

The following week brings a significant uptick in Romney's schedule. Aides say he'll touch down in two or three states a day, or hold that many daily events in big states like Florida.

Both candidates are done holding fundraisers ? no doubt a happy thought for the two of them.

But hold on to your wallets: Supporters will still be out there raising money, and there will be plenty of emails asking for cash right up to the finish.

The president began the month with a little less cash available than Romney, but both have impressive sums to blow through in the home stretch: $150 million for Obama and the Democrats, $183 million for Romney and the Republicans.

Immediately after the final debate, Obama pinged his supporters with an email that said simply: "This is in your hands now. Chip in $5 or more, and let's go win."

Republicans are dramatically bumping up ad spending in the biggest battlegrounds: In Florida, their spending this week hit $9.2 million after averaging about $5.8 million over the last four weeks. In Ohio, GOP ad spending jumped to $9.6 million this week from an average of $6.9 million over the last four weeks. Virginia saw a bump up to $7.9 million, compared with about $5.2 million over the last four weeks.

The Obama campaign on Tuesday released a new TV ad touting recent economic gains. "We're not there yet," Obama says in the ad, "but we've made real progress and the last thing we should do is turn back now." The ad will air in New Hampshire, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, Ohio, Wisconsin and Colorado.

Out on the road, Romney has been demonstrating more confidence than ever. He's started making more impromptu stops at local establishments near campaign rallies, a departure from his typically buttoned-down schedule through the summer. His crowds are bigger and more energized, too. And some voters who've attended his recent rallies say his performance helps them to see Romney as a plausible president ? not just a candidate.

Obama, for his part, has been projecting a looser, more easygoing demeanor as he campaigns, using humor to undercut Romney.

He riffs about his rival's "Romnesia" ? a lighthearted way to drive home his opponent's shifting policy positions.

Both sides are working furiously to lock down every possible early vote, and the results are evident in the 4.4 million people who've already cast ballots.

Obama will detour to Chicago Thursday to make a statement about voting early by becoming the first president to cast his own early ballot.

The country is likely to easily exceed the early voting totals from 2008, when 30 percent of ballots were cast ahead of Election Day, according to Michael McDonald, a George Mason University professor who tracks early voting closely.

In Ohio, McDonald said, numbers are up across the board ? in rural, suburban and urban areas. As many as 45 percent of Ohio voters may cast early ballots, compared with less than 30 percent four years ago, he said. The numbers in North Carolina seem to be shifting in the Republicans' direction, McDonald says, and those in Iowa "seem to confirm polling showing a slight Obama lead" there.

This year's quartet of debates ? three for the presidential candidates and one for the veeps ? started on a friendly note, with Romney wishing Obama and wife Michelle a happy 20th anniversary, but goodwill quickly deteriorated. Both men were at times argumentative and the back-and-forth often shed more heat than light.

Romney started the debate at a disadvantage with a lack of foreign policy experience. But Ryan said former governors have been very effective world leaders.

"Just look back to Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan," Ryan said on "Today." ''What matters is policy doctrine."

Romney came on like gangbusters in the first debate and left a listless Obama reeling as GOP momentum surged. Biden poured it on for the Democrats in his faceoff with Ryan, rolling out a full complement of smirks, eye-rolls and headshakes. Obama himself rebounded in the fractious town-hall debate. Both Obama and Romney were better behaved in their final faceoff, with the president playing up his commander-in-chief credentials to full effect and Romney playing it safe to avoid making mistakes.

From it all ? more than 65,000 words of debate rhetoric ? there was no signature moment that is likely to be remembered much past Election Day.

Guest interview on the HealthierJane Blog | Midwest PRS: Hand ...

I was recently interviewed on the HealthierJane blog about my thoughts regarding health, diet, and nutrition. You can read it here if you click on this link.

I really appreciated the opportunity to express some of my ideas as they regard a low-carbohydrate/carbohydrate restricted dietary approach. I think I kind of surprised Jane with my volubility?I am sure she was expecting pithy one-sentence replies?me too, actually. But once I got in the flow of writing and answering her questions, I just kind of kept going. There are a lot of ideas that I wanted to express, and I appreciate the forum which HealthierJane gave me to do that.

?Jane?, by the way, is from the sunburned country down under, Australia. The internet is simply amazing, isn?t it? There are some really great things going on in terms of people getting the important information they need to lead healthy and happy lives through the internet, rather than the old expert chain of command feeding the media blurb method. That?s a great thing, from my viw, and I am glad to be a part of it!

Disney's Secret of the Wings Review and Interview with Director ...

One of the events that I got to attend during the #DisneyMoviesEvent last month was a trip to DisneyToon Studios to watch a screening of The Secret of the Wings.? This was the first time I visited the studios and I was so excited!? While we weren?t allowed to take many photos, I did mange to get a couple of the signage for Tinker Bell and the Secret of the Wings movie.

My son and I have seen the trailers for this movie on Disney Junior, and we were both very excited to see it.? I haven?t told him that I got the chance while I was in California.? Guess what?? While we were finishing up our breakfast John Lasseter actually came to see us and thank us for previewing the movie!? Can you believe it?

The Secret of the Wings is an adorable story about Tinker Bell and her sister Periwinkle.? Yes, I said her sister.? Periwinkle and Tinker Bell were born of the same laugh, but Periwinkle traveled to the Winter Woods where she grew up.? They find each other but are forbidden to be with each other because winter fairies need to be cold and Tink can not be cold or her wings will break.? Of course, they figure out a way and try to learn as much as they can about each other.

Unfortunately, they get caught by Lord Milori and Tink has to return to the forest.? I don?t want to ruin the movie for you, so I will just tell you that an adventure ensues and Tink has to find a way to save the day!

I loved the movie.? If you have a sister, this would be a fun movie to watch together.? There is a special bond between sisters that the movie captures in a sweet way.? I love the new winter world and the addition of the winter fairies.? I watched it in 3D and the images were captivating and beautiful.? The 3D added to the movie instead of being distracting.? It was almost like I was a part of the fairy world.? I thought that this movie would be very girlie, but I was pleasantly surprised that it would appeal to boys as well as girls.? I know that my son is going to love it!

After we screened the movie, we got the chance to meet and interview Director Peggy Holmes.? I loved talking with her and seeing her enthusiasm about the movie.? Here are some of the questions we asked;

Can you tell us how you picked the names?

That?s a good one. As looked at photography of winter? I noticed there were so many awesome looking whites and blues. And one of the things we wanted to focus on in the movie is that this can?t feel like a Christmas place, it?s not a season winter. In this particular movie it?s a place. It?s a place they live, it?s there all the time. So, we needed to sort of create this magical winter and the images I was drawn to were all the whites and the blues. So, we decided to research all the different shades of blue and find the names out of that. So Periwinkle became Periwinkle and? Milori, Lord Milori, Milori is a shade of blue! If you didn?t know that. So that?s where that came from.

Peggy Homes

Tell me a little bit about the process of introducing Tinker Bell?s sister, since we?ve all known about Tinker Bell, she?s the iconic character.

I talked to you in the beginning about wanting to tell a story about bringing two worlds together. When we originally created Periwinkle it was not Tink?s sister. When I was in the first day of kindergarten or the first day at a job, there?s always someone you gravitate toward and you don?t know why yet. Then as you get to be better friends you realize why. They complete your life in a way that maybe another kid doesn?t complete your life. So originally that is how we developed the story and it just wasn?t having as much emotional impact.

So Clay Hall who directed Lost Treasure actually said why don?t we just make it her sister. And we were all like oh, you know- because that?s a universal idea that it?s your very right to know your sister. Then we started the process of what does that mean in this world. That was a fun creative process and we came upon this idea that oh my gosh there were two little wisps and we just didn?t see it in the first movie.

That is how kind of the process worked creatively and it was a really fun challenge and not easy I must say. I have three sisters so I understand that bond that happens between sisters. That sort of unspoken thing. That you just look at each other and you know. You don?t have to talk about I would go to the end of the earth for you. You don?t even have to like say it. You know? You can- you just do it.

I wanted to put that feeling in there. Then in the future, what we?re doing with Tinker Bell is continually showing you different sides of Tinker Bell?s character. ?I think of Tinker Bell as someone who is so loyal. We saw it in Peter Pan the first time we met her. She is a super loyal girl. For me, a loyal person has a huge heart. This was an opportunity to step into Tinker Bell?s heart a little bit and show how emotional she really is.

We know she gets red-faced. There?s the other side of that which is deep love. That?s what I wanted us to bring out and-in terms of the future. ?We will continue to tell Tinker Bell?s stories. And if it makes sense for Periwinkle to be in that adventure with Tinker Bell she will be there. Periwinkle is at the parks which is really thrilling.

So what is next for Tinker Bell?

You know all those doors that say no production, no crew past here? (Laughter)? There are several stories in development for Tinker Bell. It?s really exciting and fun and, you know, it?s a director driven process. So-so every director sort of looks at it a different way and thinks oh what could I tell about her. So that keeps it really fresh and exciting.

As far as the 3D, how do you balance wanting to add the 3D elements in there without making it all about 3D for the people who are watching it in 2D?

That?s a great question. I think in this case? it was exciting to learn about that 3D. We have a stereographer who sort of showed me the scale of 3D. You can go into the screen or you can go out of the screen. I prefer going deep into the screen because for me in this particular world, it made it feel to me like a living diorama. Like I just love?it just makes that world of Pixie Hollow feel that much more real and tangible.

So, the decision is based creatively on sort of what you think will help you tell the story better. When you watch it in 3D you?re feeling that depth more than 2D, but it?s still present in 2D. Style-wise, it?s still present in 2D. The kind of staging we did, but in 3D it just enhances it a little bit.

You know the other thing I wanna say about 3D is for me in this particular story especially, I didn?t want to be aware of it. You know? Especially sort of the emotional moments. I didn?t want to feel like the character was separated from the background. That?s a big thing for me. You know in a different style movie, it would be different. But for this movie I just wanted you to be able to be lost in kind of the emotion of the story and never really be aware of it, and only use it for sort of magical moments to enhance the magic.

Can you tell us about the fairies hair?

I wanted the winter fairies to be a little hipper than our warm fairies. They had a little different look- a little more angular and just slightly different. With Peri?s hair, we understood what we wanted it to look like but it needed to look good from all sides. As you get into CG and you have to model something and?it?s very difficult. We had to ask how does the hair really look in that scene? With real hair you can kind of fluff it up and put some hair spray and it will look okay but you can?t really do that in CG. You have to actually really know the construction of it. The idea came that we would hire a hairstyle expert to do that. We interviewed a couple people on the phone and the moment I talked to Ken and told him what the story was about he goes I am in. This is a guy that travels the world for different women?s causes?and is in love with this idea of bringing world together. We brought him on and he dyed the wigs of Periwinkle?s hair in his bathtub the night before. He brought in this beautiful model and the hair was like down to here and he literally cut the hair in front of us throughout the day so that our technicians here that have to actually create Periwinkle could see moment to moment?how to actually make that style work. What I told him was that she needs to look good on the red carpet from 360 degrees. That?s the goal. It was a fantastic process.

Article Body:
The call center business has become one of the fastest booming industries today. In the era of customer-oriented services, the provision for accessible support is now a priority. With many companies trying to cope up with their customers' needs and demands, the concept of the call center was born.

A call center normally operates with all its agents (or customer service representatives) in one central location. It is equipped to handle a large amount of transactions between customers and the call center agents. Transactions may be carried out through a variety of media. The telephone is the foremost form of communication in call centers today. However, transactions are also carried out via email and the live chat through the Internet.

Call centers offer a wide range of services. The first thought that comes to mind for many is support - product information, technical support, and all sorts of after sales services. However, call centers can offer more than that. They also deal with marketing and sales. Telemarketing is an aggressive form of selling your product and can yield very good results. Call centers cater to businesses which aim to increase their sales as well as provide customer services. One example would be credit card companies.

While aiming to provide information and assistance to customers, they can also increase their revenue through sales spiels given by their agents. Another service that can be dealt with by a call center is debt collection. Credit bureaus also make use of call centers to provide information on a person's credit rating. In effect, basically anything that has to do with your customers can be done through call centers.

What is the typical set up in a call center? The term call center brings up images of wide open work spaces, with small workstations containing a computer, headset, and telephone dialer. The practice is increasingly turning to the linking of data and voice in one pathway. This integration makes for more efficient work practices and is called Computer Telephony Integration (CTI). Individual agents are normally managed by a floor supervisor who also takes calls when the need arises.

Setting up a call center requires certain technology to be applied. There is a wide range of available technologies for call centers today. More often than not, different types of technologies are combined in order to achieve the most effective and efficient set up. The Computer Telephony Integration has already been mentioned is one of the trends in the business today. In fact, CTI is used to combine most applications used in call centers - voice, email, fax, and web. CTI provides many functions such as caller ID, on screen dialing, on screen phone controls (conference calls, hang up, hold, etc.), and agent status control (whether agent is available for calls or not).

With all these advances in technology and developments in consumer-oriented practices, the call center has emerged as an ideal solution for many companies. The call center provides standardized service to customers and helps cut the cost. In addition to that, the separate entity of the call center subtracts from the actual operational considerations of the company.

Coronary angioplasty improves cardiac arrest survival

ScienceDaily (Oct. 17, 2012) ? Coronary angioplasty improves survival in all patients with out of hospital cardiac arrest, according to research presented at the Acute Cardiac Care Congress 2012. The study was presented by Dr Annamaria Nicolino from the Santa Corona General Hospital in Pietra Ligure, Italy.

The Acute Cardiac Care Congress 2012 is the first annual meeting of the newly launched Acute Cardiovascular Care Association (ACCA) of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). It takes place during 20-22 October in Istanbul, Turkey, at the Istanbul Lufti Kirdar Convention and Exhibition Centre (ICEC).

Out of hospital cardiac arrest is a leading cause of mortality and acute coronary occlusion is the leading cause of cardiac arrest. It is well known that when an electrocardiogram (ECG) shows that a patient has ST elevation, primary angiography must be done as soon as possible. If severe coronary disease is found, coronary angioplasty with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is performed to open the blocked vessel.

But Dr Nicolino said: "There is controversy about what to do when a patient with out of hospital cardiac arrest has a normal ECG that does not show ST elevation. ESC Clinical Practice Guidelines are inconclusive -- they say to consider performing coronary angiography but they don't say 'do it' or 'don't do it'."

She added: "Some previous studies have found that if the ECG is normal (no ST elevation) the patient can still have severe coronary disease and therefore needs a coronary angiography, followed by coronary angioplasty, to clear the blocked vessel."

The current study aimed to discover whether performing urgent coronary angiography, and PCI if required, would improve survival in all patients with out of hospital cardiac arrest (both those with ST elevation and those without).

The study included 70 patients who had out of hospital cardiac arrest between 2006 and 2009. Successful urgent coronary angiography and PCI improved hospital survival in all patients with acute coronary syndrome. The treatment increased hospital survival rates in patients with ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) from 51% to 83% (p=0.003) and in non-STEMI (NSTEMI) patients from 55% to 81% (p=0.004).

"In our study, a successful urgent coronary angioplasty improved hospital survival in patients with STEMI and NSTEMI," said Dr Nicolino. "All patients with out of hospital cardiac arrest, if there is no non-cardiac cause, must have an urgent coronary angiography followed by coronary angioplasty if there is coronary disease."

Non-cardiac causes of cardiac arrest which should be ruled out before performing coronary angiography are trauma, brain haemorrhage and metabolic problems such as severe hypoglycaemia.

Dr Nicolino added: "ECG results can be misleading -- we found that ECG detected just one-third of acute coronary syndrome in NSTEMI patients. This means that even if the ECG is not showing ST elevation, you cannot rule out an acute coronary syndrome. Coronary angiography should be performed urgently to see if there is any acute coronary disease which needs treatment with PCI."

Post-resuscitation neurologic injury (PNI) was the biggest complication. This can occur if resuscitation is not performed early enough, since the brain's blood supply stops during cardiac arrest. The 32.8% of patients who had PNI were at the greatest risk of death. Early signs of PNI were associated with underuse of coronary angioplasty and PCI.

Provided there was no neurological injury, MI patients who had angioplasty after cardiac arrest achieved the same one-year survival rates as patients with MI alone.

The first heart rhythm was a ventricular fibrillation (VF) or a ventricular tachycardia (VT) in 62% of patients. Most of these patients had an acute coronary syndrome (STEMI or NSTEMI). The incidence of VF and VT was the same in STEMI and NSTEMI patients. "For many years we have thought that patients with STEMI have a greater arrhythmic risk than NSTEMI patients," said Dr Nicolino. "But we found that both STEMI and NSTEMI patients are at high risk of arrhythmias."

She added: "If the first recorded rhythm is a VF or a VT an acute coronary syndrome is highly probable and it's important to perform a coronary angiography immediately without waiting for a diagnosis of infarction (using an enzyme test)."

Dr Nicolino concluded: "Patients with out of hospital cardiac arrest must be managed by cardiologists, intensive care doctors and anaesthesiologists. This team can save the brain from injury using cooling therapy, and save the heart and life of the patient using coronary angioplasty."

British protesters demand end to "failing" austerity

LONDON (Reuters) - Tens of thousands of British protesters marched through London on Saturday calling for an end to public spending cuts and tax rises launched by a government they accuse of elitism and ignorance about the plight of recession-hit voters.

Blowing horns and whistles, demonstrators streamed past the Houses of Parliament behind a banner declaring "Austerity is Failing", and called on Prime Minister David Cameron to do more to revive Britain's struggling economy.

The Conservative-led coalition is reeling from the resignation on Friday of a senior minister accused of calling police "plebs", a class-laden insult for working people, and the perception that they are out of touch.

"The wealthy don't realize the impact of the cuts and this government is only interested in what you can give them," said local government worker Eric Batty, 60, dressed in a black grim reaper cloak costume symbolizing death.

The government says it must stick to its plan to eliminate a budget deficit that stood at 8 percent of gross domestic product last year, the biggest of any major European country. It says the euro zone crisis has also cast a shadow over the British economy.

Cameron's party faced a barrage of negative headlines over the departure of Andrew Mitchell - the "Chief Whip" or party enforcer - four weeks after he swore at police guarding the gates to the prime minister's Downing Street office.

A separate row involving finance minister George Osborne, who sat in a first class train carriage with a standard class ticket before paying for an upgrade, added ammunition to critics who say the Conservatives are privileged and aloof.

Addressing protesters, opposition Labour leader Ed Miliband was quick to seize on the latest Conservative missteps to condemn Cameron's policies.

"He is a weak and clueless prime minister," Miliband told a cheering crowd. "Andrew Mitchell may have resigned but the culture of two nations runs right across this government. They cut taxes for millionaires and they raise taxes for ordinary families."

However, Miliband was booed when he told demonstrators that Labour would have had to make cuts too if it had won the last election, albeit at a slower pace.

Under grey autumnal skies, demonstrators waved banners saying "No Cuts", "Tax the Rich, Teach the Poor" and "Plebs of the World Unite", poking fun at Mitchell's resignation.

Nurses, cleaners, librarians and ambulance drivers were among those who joined the march and a rally in London's central Hyde Park, in one of the biggest anti-austerity protests this year. Organizers estimated that 150,000 people took part.

Marches also took place in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and Glasgow, Scotland.

"I've got friends who are in desperate straits, living in fear of losing their job and their house," said Nick Chaffey, 48, a Socialist Party campaigner married to a teacher who has taken a pay cut.

Police said the London march had passed peacefully and they expected to report a low number of arrests in a bulletin later.

COALITION UNDER PRESSURE

Trade union leaders are trying to use the rally to pile more pressure on Cameron, telling protesters the government's economic plan has failed and only prolonged Britain's recession.

"Austerity isn't working. It is hammering the poorest and the most vulnerable," said Brendan Barber, head of the Trades Union Congress, an umbrella group which represents 54 unions.

The coalition government had responded to calls from unions and the opposition Labour Party to do more to increase growth by relaxing planning laws and boosting lending to businesses.

Cameron's party staked its 2010 election campaign on the austerity program, calling for deeper cuts to welfare spending while dismissing the idea of a tax on the wealthy.

In an emergency budget announced after winning power, his coalition government said it would cut most departmental budgets by an average of around 20 percent over four years.

It announced a public sector pay freeze, set a new ceiling on the total state benefits any family can receive and cut tax relief on pensions. The VAT sales tax went up to 20 percent.

Conservative Party Chairman Grant Shapps said opposition Labour and the unions had "turned a blind eye" to the need to rein in spending.

He said: "By marching with them, Ed Miliband proved he still stands for more spending, more borrowing and more debt."
